The Libertea Project Introduction to Egham Rangers! Written By Sophie H (member of Egham Rangers)

Updated: Feb 27, 2018

Last night’s meeting made our project feel like it’s really making progress. And it’s actually starting to feel real! This project started off as just a small group of us discussing our plans back in 2017. And now we have seventeen girls wanting to be apart of this amazing adventure.

Last night we had an informational evening, to ensure everyone was on board and knew what was happening and to expect from the weekend. This ensured that we could plan the event properly and with maximum involvement from everyone.

The next few weeks is jam packed with workshops - I’m so excited and I can't wait to see what the project will evolve into! Starting with Thursday 15th February. The Rangers and I will be taking part in a

Sisterhood workshop by Tonia Daley Campbell. Tonia's workshop will be based around the idea of "Sistahood!" We are not sure what to expect yet but it should be a very interesting evening! Then we have the workshop day on Sunday 4th March which has workshops that include stage combat, voice, self defence, a talk by the Holocaust Memorial Day Youth, debate skills and body confidence! All these activities will hopefully develop myself and the other girls to build confidence for the upcoming BBC debate that we will be taking part in!

The next major part of our project is the suffragette weekend we have planned! This weekend will be packed full of tea, cake and learning about the suffragettes and their inspirational fight

for universal suffrage! The weekend is also a great opportunity to learn everything we need to know about the suffragettes and we’ll also be making our challenge badge!

But the part that we’re are all working towards is the massive open day that we have planned at Royal Holloway on the 30th March! Set in the new Emily Davison Building the perfect place to promote what we have learnt and the release of the "Libertea" Badge!

This is a thrilling way to empower women of all ages and help them feel like they have a voice! After the open day the project will come to a close. But in terms of our challenge badge, its only just beginning........

I would also like to say a massive thank you to Royal Holloway and the Vote 100 committee for giving us all this amazing opportunity that I will take forward into my own life and into the lives of others.
